Pallet Racks for Clinton, IL Buildings
Clinton is the DeWitt County seat, about 48 miles from Springfield at the junction of US-51 and Routes 54 and 10. It sits 22 miles south of Bloomington-Normal and 18 miles north of Decatur, and much of its industrial space is older stock with low ceilings.
Our job here is usually squeezing positions out of limited height. We plan selective pallet rack beam by beam for older terminals and plants.
Low Clear Heights, Careful Beam Spacing
A 151,200 SF former truck terminal on Route 10 has 12 docks and 14-18 ft ceilings. It was built in 1972 with later additions, so heights can change from one section to the next. We measure each bay area separately.
At 14 ft, three levels may be all that fit. At 18 ft, a fourth level often appears if load heights are tight and beam spacing is exact. That one level can change the whole count.
- Heights measured section by section
- Beam elevations set from real load heights
- Lift-off clearance kept tight but workable
Pushback in Low Buildings
When height runs out, depth is the next place to look. Pushback rack stores two to six pallets deep from one aisle, so a 16 ft building can gain positions without needing more levels. Each lane holds one SKU, which keeps inventory clean.
It works best for items with several pallets each. For single-pallet SKUs, selective stays the right answer.

Weather and Older Buildings
Older terminals tend to have many doors and little insulation. Winter installs mean cold working conditions and slower crews near open doors. Summer installs mean heat. We set start times and break schedules to match.
Reusing Older Plants
A former printing plant on Clinton's east side is being reused by an expanding manufacturer. Reuse projects inherit columns, dock positions and floor layouts that were never meant for rack. We work around them instead of fighting them.
Truck terminals are a special case. Long, narrow buildings with many docks favor short rack runs between doors and wide cross-dock aisles.
US-51 Between Two Metros
Clinton's spot on US-51 between Bloomington-Normal and Decatur lets a warehouse here serve both. Older buildings with many docks, like the former truck terminal, suit cross-docking and short-term storage. Rack runs stay short between doors, and fast movers sit closest to them.
Where longer storage is needed, rows can run deeper into the building away from the dock wall.
Development Sites in DeWitt County
The DeWitt County Development Council markets industrial warehouse buildings, US-51 acreage and an I-74 / IL-54 development site. If you are moving into one, our warehouse relocation team can bring your current rack. In low buildings, pushback rack is another way to add positions without more height.
