Industrial Racking in Pekin, IL
Pekin is about 62 miles north of Springfield on the Illinois River, and its industrial base is heavy: steel, packaging, food ingredients and equipment distribution. Loads are dense, and inbound often arrives by rail or barge in large lots.
We spec heavy-duty selective pallet rack and cantilever rack for those plants, with beams and frames rated for the weight you actually lift.
Riverway Business Park
Riverway Business Park covers 438 acres on the southwest side with utilities in place. It is home to steel, packaging, food ingredient and equipment-distribution operations. Each of those stores differently: coils and bar on cantilever, packaging on selective rack, ingredient totes in deep lanes.
Heavy pallets change the math. A load of steel parts can weigh several times a pallet of packaging, so we size beams by level, not by bay, and post capacity for each.
Cantilever for Steel and Long Stock
Steel bar, tubing and structural shapes do not sit well on pallet beams. Cantilever columns and arms hold bundles from the side, with no front posts to block a long load. Arm length follows the bundle depth, and arm capacity follows the heaviest bundle.
- Single-sided runs along a wall
- Double-sided rows in open floor
- Arm spacing set to bundle length

Packaging Plants and Bulky Loads
Packaging operations store light but tall loads: stacked corrugate, film rolls and empty containers. Beam levels get spaced for height rather than weight, and frame depth follows the pallet footprint. Getting that right can add a level in the same building.
Steel and ingredient plants next door need the opposite approach. That contrast inside one business park is why we never reuse a layout from one Pekin building in another.
Weather and River Timing
River traffic and rail schedules set the pace for inbound. Severe spring weather can stop both, and winter ice can slow barge traffic. A little extra floor staging near receiving keeps a delayed shipment from backing up the entire building.
Rail and River Sites South of Town
Pekin Industrial River Park on Hanna Drive covers 159 acres served by Canadian National rail, about 6.5 miles from I-474 and 11 miles from I-155. Pekin South Industrial Park, up to 197 city-owned acres beside Route 29, has CN rail on site and sits less than a mile from Illinois River barge traffic.
These sites are in the Pekin Area Enterprise Zone, about 10 miles from Peoria International Airport. A company moving into one can bring its current rack; our warehouse relocation service inventories it, flags damaged pieces and redraws it for the new building.
Equipment Distribution in Riverway
Equipment distributors in the park store attachments, parts and crated machines. Crates often run wider than a pallet bay, so we size some bays wider and keep a floor zone for the largest units.
Ingredient and Packaging Storage
Food-ingredient plants hold bulk lots that rotate by date. Pallet flow rack feeds the oldest pallet forward automatically, which keeps rotation honest without extra forklift moves.
