Pallet Racks for Lincoln, IL Warehouses

Lincoln is on I-55 about 33 miles north of Springfield, with Route 121 running to Decatur and I-155 heading to Peoria. Two Class I railroads, Canadian National and Union Pacific, serve the town, which is why rail-served warehouse space shows up here more than in most towns its size.

Buildings serving both Springfield and Bloomington from this spot need flexible storage. We lay out selective pallet rack for mixed inbound and cantilever rack for long material coming off railcars.

    Rail Doors and Rack Layout

A rail door changes the floor plan. Railcars unload in bulk, so the space inside that door needs open staging before product goes into rack. We keep that zone clear and run rack rows so forklifts move straight from the car to the aisles.

Rail-served space on North Logan Street runs about 20-27 ft clear, with dock and rail doors and outdoor storage, about 1.8 miles from I-55. At those heights, four or five beam levels are typical, depending on load height.

Serving Springfield and Bloomington From One Building

A warehouse in Lincoln can reach Springfield or Bloomington in well under an hour on I-55. Companies use that to run one building for both markets. The rack plan then needs two outbound staging areas and SKUs slotted by which market they ship to most.

Route 121 adds Decatur to the mix, and I-155 opens Peoria. When freight fans out in several directions, outbound lanes should be marked and kept clear of storage.

Winter at an Unheated Rail Door

Rail doors leak cold. Receiving crews working a car in February need room to move quickly and get product inside the heated part of the building, if there is one. We keep the first rack row back from the rail door to give that space.

Summer brings the reverse problem in buildings without air conditioning. Our install crews start early and break during the hottest hours.

    Logan Industrial Park

Logan Industrial Park holds 284,000 SF across three buildings on 13 fenced acres, with an active Union Pacific spur, about five minutes from I-55. Multi-building sites like this often end up with different rack in each building, and we draw them as one plan so components can move between them later.

    • Selective rack for mixed-SKU inbound
    • Cantilever for pipe, lumber or bar stock
    • Staging lanes at rail and dock doors

Outdoor Storage on North Logan Street

The rail-served buildings on North Logan Street come with outdoor storage. Yard space works well for cantilever rows of pipe or lumber, freeing the indoor rack for boxed and palletized goods. We plan the yard rows so trucks can unload alongside them without backing through the building.

    Long Loads Off the Railcar

Lumber, pipe and steel often arrive by rail. Cantilever rack keeps those bundles off the floor and reachable from the side. Indoors, it frees aisle space; in a fenced yard, it keeps stock organized when snow and ice make outdoor handling slow.

Expanding from Springfield into Lincoln, or the other way? Our warehouse relocation team can move existing rack and add what the new building needs.
