Pallet Racks for Morton, IL 3PL Warehouses
Morton sits at the I-74 / I-155 interchange, roughly halfway between Peoria and Bloomington and about 64 miles from Springfield. The town is home to several large trucking companies, and its warehouse stock leans toward 3PL and multi-client distribution.
We plan selective pallet rack and pushback rack for those buildings, where client mix and SKU depth can change with each new contract.
Multi-Client Warehouses
A 180,000 SF multi-client warehouse on Commerce Drive handles cross-docking and fulfillment. In a building like that, the rack has to serve whoever signs next. Selective rack keeps every position open for any client, while pushback zones hold the deep, steady SKUs.
We draw zones by client or by velocity, with cross-dock lanes kept clear of rack so trailers can turn product without touching storage.
Working a 28 ft Clear Building
A 100,000 SF warehouse built in 2017 near I-74 has 28 ft clear heights and 9 docks. Twenty-eight feet usually supports five beam levels for standard loads. The deciding factor is how high your trucks lift with a full pallet.
Pushback works well at this height. Lanes three or four deep cut aisles while each lane stays one SKU.
- Five levels common at 28 ft clear
- Pushback lanes two to six deep
- Dock-side cross-dock lanes kept open

Fulfillment Inside a 3PL
Fulfillment work means picking eaches and cases, not just pallets. A pick module with carton flow at the lower levels and reserve pallets above turns part of a 3PL building into a fulfillment line without changing the rest.
Each client may have different packaging and order profiles. We size carton flow lanes per client so one account's long cases do not jam another's lanes.
Trucking Companies Next Door
Several large trucking companies call Morton home. That means frequent pickups and short dwell times at the dock. Outbound staging space close to the doors is worth more here than a few extra bays.
Winter on I-74 can still slow inbound loads. A buffer of floor space near receiving keeps late trucks from causing a pileup.
Labeling and Location Systems
Multi-client warehouses live and die by location labels. Every bay, level and position needs a clear ID that matches the warehouse management system. We number the layout drawing to match, so labels can go up as rack goes in rather than weeks later.
Consistent bay sizes also make labeling simpler. When every position is the same, a new client can be slotted anywhere.
Morton Commerce Park
Morton Commerce Park is part of a 200-acre light-industrial (I-1) park with on and off access to I-74 and build-to-suit sites. A new build here can be laid out around rack from the first drawing.
