Pallet Racks in Hillsboro, IL
Hillsboro is the Montgomery County seat on Illinois Route 16, about 8 miles east of I-55 and roughly 50 miles from Springfield, halfway to St. Louis. Its east side holds an established heavy-industrial corridor with large older warehouses.
We plan selective pallet rack for companies reusing those buildings and for small manufacturers along Route 16.
Reusing the East-Side Warehouses
The former glass-plant site covers 11 acres with a 60,000 SF warehouse and an adjacent 100,000 SF warehouse, next to the Union Pacific line. Older buildings like these have quirks: columns in odd places, mixed heights and dock doors that were added over time.
A good layout works around those quirks. We measure each area, note every column and door, and draw rack runs that fit what is actually there.
- Each column and door measured in place
- Rack runs fitted to irregular grids
- Rail-side receiving space kept open
Large Older Warehouses Done Right
Big older warehouses often have generous floor area but limited height and wide column spacing. That can be a good fit for long runs of selective rack with wide aisles for older forklifts. Where height allows, pushback rack adds depth for SKUs with several pallets each.
We also check dock count against the floor area. A large building with few doors needs staging space planned carefully.

Between Springfield and St. Louis
Being 8 miles from I-55 and halfway to St. Louis puts Hillsboro within reach of both markets. Outbound may go either direction, so we keep staging lanes flexible.
Winter storms along Route 16 can delay deliveries. We plan installs with a day of slack in the cold months.
Small Manufacturers on Route 16
Smaller shops along Route 16 often need a few rows of rack for raw material and finished goods, plus shelving for parts. We size the job to the operation. If long stock is involved, cantilever rack along a wall keeps it organized.
Union Pacific Access
The east-side warehouses sit next to the Union Pacific line. Rail service lets a user receive bulk material and store it on site. The layout needs open staging inside the rail door and rack rows arranged so forklifts move straight from the car into storage.
Older rail docks may need checking for height and access. We note them during the warehouse consultation.
Enterprise Zone and Planning
Hillsboro is part of the Montgomery County Enterprise Zone, which runs through 2033, along with Litchfield and other county towns. Companies moving into the corridor can plan rack as part of the move.
Our warehouse relocation service inventories your current rack, flags damaged parts and redraws it for the new building. Hot summers in non-air-conditioned warehouses mean early starts for install crews.
