Pallet Racks in Litchfield, IL
Litchfield is about 45 miles south of Springfield, roughly halfway to St. Louis on I-55. The city targets warehouse and distribution, manufacturing, and food processing and agribusiness on the west side of the interstate, and it has three industrial parks to put them in.
Most of that work runs on selective pallet rack: it fits mixed distribution inventory, and it is easy to reconfigure when a tenant changes.
Three Parks, About 300 Acres
The Dean Meier Litchfield Industrial Park covers about 130 acres with rail service. The Route 66 Industrial Park and the new Litchfield I-55 Commerce Center round out roughly 300 acres total. I-55 and Route 16 cross right at the parks, and a dedicated truck route serves them.
Norfolk Southern and BNSF serve one of the parks, with rail to Chicago and St. Louis. Rail-served buildings need receiving space near the rail door, so we keep that area open in the layout.
Older Stock and New Builds Side by Side
Litchfield has older industrial buildings alongside the new I-55 Commerce Center. Older buildings tend to be 16-24 ft clear with tighter column grids. A new build can go taller. The rack plan for each looks very different, even for the same company.
In an older building, we chase every beam level. In a new one, we often start by asking how high your forklifts reach, because that sets the limit before the roof does.

Halfway Between Two Markets
Being halfway between Springfield and St. Louis lets a Litchfield warehouse serve both. That usually means two outbound streams and SKUs grouped by destination. We draw outbound lanes so loads for each market can be staged without crossing paths.
Food and Ag Processing Storage
Food processors and ag businesses store ingredients, packaging and finished goods, sometimes cold. For product that turns by date, pallet flow rack keeps the oldest pallet at the pick face. For deep lots of a single item, drive-in rack stores more pallets per square foot.
- Selective rack for mixed distribution
- Pallet flow for date rotation
- Drive-in for deep single-SKU lots
Truck Route Access and Dock Planning
The dedicated truck route serving the parks keeps heavy traffic off town streets. Inside the building, dock count and position decide where the fastest-moving rack rows go. We put the highest-volume SKUs closest to the doors and leave a clear apron for staging.
If a building has both dock and drive-in doors, the drive-in door often becomes the path for long or oversized loads. We keep that lane open.
Install Timing on the I-55 Corridor
Steel and crews come down I-55, so a winter storm between Springfield and Litchfield can push a delivery a day. We plan around it. In summer, most buildings here have no air conditioning, so crews start early.
Companies relocating between Springfield and St. Louis often land in Litchfield. Our warehouse relocation team handles teardown, labeling, transport coordination and reinstall.
